Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI, Onsite)

Friday 13th September 2024 – 07.00 – 18.00

The Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FSEM) in Ireland is set to host its Twentieth Annual Scientific Conference titled “Exploring Future Frontiers in Sports & Exercise Medicine” on September 13, 2024, at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). This event is designed to discuss cutting-edge developments in sports and exercise medicine. It will feature debates on anti-doping, complex case presentations, and findings from the latest sports science studies. The conference will also highlight results from large international randomized controlled trials focusing on modern imaging and sports wearables, alongside an interview with a professional rugby representative on resilience and mental health.

Conference Highlights

This year’s conference, organized by FSEM Ireland, promises to be a comprehensive event that will benefit both clinicians and the wider public. It will engage presenters and audiences from various roles within the sports and exercise medicine (SEM) field, including SEM physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, radiologists, patient representatives, emergency medicine physicians, urological surgeons, physiotherapists, sports and exercise scientists, and athletic therapists. Additionally, there will be an elite athlete interview featuring a representative from the British and Irish Lions Rugby team.

The conference’s core values are respect, service, open exchange, and professionalism. It is organized in partnership with the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP), the Irish Sports and Exercise Science Association (ISESA), and Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland (ARTI), creating a fully integrated and multidisciplinary event. This year also marks the first time that the faculty has opened up membership to all of these organizations.

Focus on Innovation and Inclusion

The conference aims to cover three domains: innovative, educational, and translational knowledge. Notably, 42% of the oral presentations and lectures will be delivered by female presenters, and for the first time, the honorary fellowship award recipients are also female. This demonstrates FSEM Ireland’s commitment to diversity and inclusion within the field.
